No way!

After watching many youtubers doing this tag I'm giving it a go now.
The questions I found on Manu's blog and translated them.

No way! [food]
The majority of seafood and fish, picky with meat too.

No way! [clothes]
Tracksuits worn outside the house. The absence of shirts on men/boys during British summers. Groups of teenagers all looking exactly the same. Miniature size backpacks on elderly women.

No way! [music]
When it comes to music I'm extremely flexible and tolerant. The only two I really can't stand are Kate Bush and Rihanna.

No way! [smells]
Apart from the usual suspects, the smell when you open the door of the hot dishwasher. And "Cashmir" by Chopard.

No way! [season]
Winter! Christmas is dreadful and darkness, ice and snow even more so.

No way! [sweets]
Damn, I like everything. But not a big fan of the combination peppermint/chocolate or peanut/chocolate.

No way! [youtube]
"this video is not available in your country"

No way! [McDonalds]
Only go 1-2 a year and would never eat the chicken nuggets. McFlurries are overrated too.

No way! [people]
Unreliability, narrow-mindedness, shallowness, lack of education, friendliness and manners

No way! [celebrities]
Pretty much everyone that dominates your screen and papers while you still don't know what exactly they have done to be so famous.

No way! [hair]
Peoples hair being so filthy that it starts smelling, bahhhh.
And women with extremely long hair - makes them look like a harp player or member of some strange religious sect.

No way! [party]
Not sure, never go to any.

No way! [car]
Driving. Why should I bother when being on a bus/train I can daydream, read or snooze safely at the same time?

No way! [parents]
If one parent becomes terminally ill and dies before their time.

No way! [Instagram]
Hmm, the existence of it? Not a member, not seeing the point.

What makes you say "No way! or "Geht gar nicht!"?

free haircuts!

I´m a model now.

That shocked you now, didn´t it ;-)!?
Obviously not the runway sort of (the world is definitely NOT ready for this yet) but for a hair stylist.
But lets start at the beginning.

When you wear your hair long you will probably not feel the need to go to a hairdressers that often but once they are cropped short you start noticing that 6 weeks is the absolute longest you can survive without looking awful. As my hair is a desaster of very thin and very fine smooth hair even more so.
In Germany I usually went to a salon that is run by apprentices and you only pay 7€ for each wash/cut/blow-dry.
Now I was looking for something similar in England - after browsing the normal salons in town and deciding that you get nothing for under 40Pounds and if it´s a top stylist and not a junior you don´t wanna know (how ridiculous is that pricing system anyway? It´s not the army after all so why emphasize those silly ranks that much? To make more money of course but still...)

A friend gave me the idea to look for salons which need a model.
After a bit of online research I landed at Gumtree.
Type in "free haircut" and you will be asking yourself why did you ever paid before. There are loads of young stylists working at sometimes really high end salons looking desperately for customers to spend some of their time so they get some practise. The modalities might differ from salon to salon but I scored the biggest hit ever.
Female short hair is much sought after as it is more rare.
I read, clicked, wrote and tada:

Jones & Payne in trendy Shoreditch it was, who has just won the "Best Hairdressing Salon" London lifestyle award.

A free wash with posh Unite products, a head massage, a fantastic cut (probably the best I´ve ever had) and as much free drinks (alcoholic!!!) as you like!!!

And if all this wasn´t good enough already: I got compliments for having "good hair" for learning how to get precisely! My hair got a compliment!!! WOW (in Germany I was used to getting told that my hair is too boring and not fun to work with, thank you very much). I could have married the stylist straightaway if I wouldn´t be married already ;-)

The salon is really stylish with its mix of urban warehouse chique and baroque detailing. The staff is cool but not in a threatening way. Some reviews found it pretentious and obnoxious but I never felt that way.
(and I´m not someone who ever enjoyed going to hair salons!)

So all I have to do now is book with them, sit down, have coffee/cocktails/organic Earl Grey and relax for 3 hours and leave feeling great.

Don´t get scared of the model business, they wouldn´t do anything to your hair you wouldn´t approve of and talk to you before anyway.

I´m hooked and sad my hair doesn´t grow even quicker. Colour to try next! Never again will I pay more than a train ticket to London in order to get great hair.
So who´s saying that London is expensive!?

Sabine and Thomas Müller

Make me a German!?!
Watched that a while ago on BBC and, though disagreeing on some things, found it very very interesting.

Have a look for yourself and let me know what you think!

'tis the season

As you all know by now I'm anything but a Christmas lover...but one thing I have to admit: the Brits do some very impressive Christmas tv adverts.
Pompous, cheesy, long...but nice. Let's have a look for yourself and enjoy cute animals, a creepy as always Helena Bonham-Carter, one hot mad hatter and some Disney magic despite the two sissies Ant or Dec :-)

I do like to be beside the seaside

and yet another wedding my husband and I attended this year and had the honour to shoot. As you can see at a very different location - the wedding took place on the iconic Westerhever lighthouse, the photoshoot was on the beach at St. Peter Ording and the reception at a nearby cafe in Nordfriesland
Even though location wise I felt very much out of my comfort zone it was a pleasant change and, to be honest, how often do you get the opportunity to shoot wedding pictures at the beach in Germany?!?
Looking forward to my next brides and grooms!

Ich bin da noch mal hin

Autor: Anne Butterfield
erschienen: 2012

Bend it Like Beckham

director: Gurinder Chadha
year: 2002
with: Parminder Nagra, Keira Knightley, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Anupam Kher, etc.

plot: A comedy about bending the rules to reach your goal, Bend It Like Beckham explores the world of women's football, from kick-abouts in the park to freekicks in the Final. Set in Hounslow, West London the film follows two 18 year olds with their hearts set on a future in professional football. Heart-stopping talent doesn't seem to be enough when your parents want you to hang up your football boots, find a nice boyfriend and learn to cook the perfect chapatti.

what I liked: Even though I couldn't care less about football in general and women's football in particular this film still hasn't lost any of it's original charme and finds a balance between culture clash comedy and more serious coming-of-age story.

what I didn't like: I sympathise a bit with Jules mom, her tacky hats, love of everything pink and girly and her fascination for pump up bras...worrying.

verdict: Even though it is not the most modern of films anymore and soon not many people will know who that famous Mr. Beckham's claim to fame is, it was well worth re-watching.

2002 I was sitting in cinema in Germany with my best friend, watching this film set in Hounslow, seeing Heathrow airport but never had flown myself, adoring the certain Englishness in everything and hating Keira Knightley in a (probably dreadful) German translation.
2013 I'm sitting on the sofa with my Heathrow working husband in a typical English semi-detatched house, near Hounslow ...and still hating Keira Knightley.
Who would have thought 11 years ago that one day I will pretty much live within the world of "Bend it like Beckham"...minus the sari and the football.
A trip down memory lane.

11.11.

11.11. 11o'clock in the UK...and in Germany. The differences couldn't be bigger...surprised the Daily Mail hasn't picked up on this one yet.

Best Blog Award

the lovely Mrs B. gave me the Best Blog Award and with that some questions. Thank you very much, I feel honoured - keep on blogging!
(won't pass the award on though as too many people hate it, I'm sorry)

1) What is the story behind your blog name?

I have green eyes...and I have my moments of being quite jealous (however it's improving!). And in English a "green-eyed monster" describes a jealous person. Was the first thing that came to my mind when setting up my blog and stuck to it.

2) Where's your next holiday going to?

Edinburgh, the coming week :-)

3) Your favourite season?

I love spring and autumn most but only if they are as they should be, not too cold and not too hot. I used to dislike summer a lot as all theatres and decent cinemas are closed and I got easily bored. As I was one of the few people walking to school and not taking the bus, very hot temperatures always let to me arriving at school quite exhausted while the others looked freshly showered, hated that.
Since I left school that changed - now that I have my own garden I could have summer 300 days a year and even 38degrees heat doesn't stop me from walking around endlessly and enjoying it.
Definitely not a big fan of winter as it drags on, focuses too much on Christmas and the darkness gets depressing after a while. I can adapt to everything, the only aspect I really really hate is snow and ice as this makes planning/time-keeping/flying so damn annoying.
To cut a long story short - bright and warm weather is fantastic but I don't mind anything as long as it's not snowing!

4) Do you own designer items?

I guess Longchamp and Liebeskind bags don't count.
I own the odd Calvin Klein t-shirt, a pair of Ray Ban glasses and loads of high-end perfumes. So yes, in a "everyday designer" sort of way and no, if you mean haute couture stuff.

5) Any sport you actively do or have done?
No, apart from tai chi and yoga which I did several classes long some years ago.

6) What is your favourite food?
Impossible to limit it to just one!!! Spontaneously I would say Spaghetti Bolognese, Red Thai Curry, Pad Thai, various hot Indian curries, Rinder Rouladen, gedeckter Apfelkuchen with whipped cream

nuptiae

In August, on a lovely sunny and warm weekend, I had the honour again of shooting another wedding and documenting the couple's special day in Trier.
Beautiful and relaxed couple, stunning weather, everything organised smoothly and very pretty locations...what more can you wish for :-)

Gay Folks Day

Tuesday the 5th November 2013, Lufthansa flight 920 from Frankfurt to Heathrow. Around 20:30 local time, the sky is clear. Circling in the holding stack over east London

There are a lot of fireworks to be seen on the ground. Some are big and "official" ones that look fairly impressive even from the distance, the majority though are pathetic little pops of colour, not more than a camera flash. From my perspective London looks like a huge crowd of paparrazi.

www.theguardian.co.uk

It's Guy Fawkes night.

The first officer on this flight is obviously not familiar with this British tradition and seems to be surprised that New Year's Eve has come early this year. The air control tower at Heathrow tells her the reason why. Unfortunately the poor sound quality and/or his accent lead to the birth of new holiday celebrated in the UK:

"Ladies and Gentlemen, as you can see there are a lot of fireworks in London tonight. The tower just told me that this is because it is Gay Folks day which is always celebrated in the 5th November like this"

A whole load of Germans on this flight now think that the UK is much more liberal and tolerant than they ever thought...:-)

Mallorca V

and now finally pictures of our last day in Mallorca which we spend on the beach, at the museum Els Calderers and at IKEA (yes, I was as surprised as you might be now to find out that IKEA has spread that far). Had a great time and as there is so much left to see and do on the island we will definitely come back!
