plot: Stanley is a magician who has dedicated his life to revealing fraudulent spiritualists. He plans to quickly uncover the truth behind celebrated spiritualist Sophie and her scheming mother. However, the more time he spends with her, he starts thinking that she might actually be able to communicate with the other world, but even worse, he might be falling in love with her.
what I liked: Woody Allen! Colin Firth!!! The roaring twenties! Southern France! All ingredients that make me nearly instantly happy - that´s how the stupid Gatsby 2013 should have looked and sounded like.
what I didn´t like: Well, it is charming but very fordable as well. Colin Firth is, as always, nice to look at and listen to but not exactly the right match for this part. In a review I read that instead of being a "Cary Grant he is more Gordon Brown" - unfortunately this stuck to my mind and didn´t help to make the relationship with young and doe-eyed Emma Stone more convincing.
verdict: A nice escapist film to brighten up a grey and windy autumn´s afternoon in cinema but not a milestone - neither for Woody Allen nor for Colin Firth.
Mit Emma Stone kann ich nicht so wirklich, aber der Rest überzeugt mich genug: will ich sehen!!!!
